Background

Tanzania IFP-Alumni Association (TIFPA) was established in 2006 and was registered as an NGO under the Non Governmental Act, 2002. The Association was formulated by recipients of Ford Foundation Fellows who had finished their studies and had come back to their communities.

The alumni members whose main goal was to promote social justice in the Tanzanian society resolved to form an Association to have a united force and utilize resources jointly. In summary the objectives are as follows:

  1. To form a network of Tanzania IFP Alumni
  2. To form a forum for the advocacy of social justice in Tanzania
  3. To carry out activities aimed at enhancing social justice in Tanzania communities and the world at large
  4. To act as a link between  Tanzania alumnae and other regional and global alumnae of the Ford Foundation

In an endeavor to attain its intended objective, the Association unanimously agreed to focus its efforts in line with the goals of the National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP/MKUKUTA). The NSGRP has identified three critical areas for urgent action; these include Good Governance and Accountability; Growth and Reduction of Income Poverty; and Improved Quality of Life and Social Well- being.

TIFPA, therefore, has decided to work on three areas namely (i) Human Rights and Good Governance including, gender, civil, economic, political, children and disability (ii) Social services; this covers areas of health, education, water and infrastructure and (iii) Income Poverty reduction and income generating activities.
